The Story

The 3 figures in this composition represents the adult-self, teenage-self and child-self.

Often times, when I go through the process of contemplation, I am engaging with my present and past selves.

When I enter into the realm of contemplation, I enter with the purpose to heal what’s broken, see what I can do to fix the parts of me that needs the change.

There's something about the meditative repetition of brush strokes that engages memories and thoughts in an un-confrontational way.

As I paint and reflect, I begin to decipher and unravel the trauma and knowledge gathered over the years and weed out what is no longer necessary to the defining of my self.

The golden triangle that appears when the 3 selves are in sync represents the unified and perfect state one needs to be in for healing to happen. The triangle on its side denotes the act of moving forward.

The ‘ Sun and Moon’ element as the mouth of the figures, symbolize the enduring power of the words spoken.

Through the process of making art, I am able to address and heal the traumas I've gathered in my life as a child, as a teenager and as an adult.

This purpose was something I wanted to convey in this collection.

Contemplation Series

“As we journey through life, we find ourselves cocooned in contemplation at various junctions — in search of enlightenment and some form of understanding of ourselves.

This journey is symbolized by the mandala crowning our heads. Each of us have different and maybe similar rings of sacred truths which we have uncovered in our contemplative wanderings. Truths that we have come to realize makes us who we are as individuals. And as a community, we create a lush kaleidoscopic landscape of experiences to explore.

In our contemplation, we evolve and draw closer to being our most authentic selves. That’s the beauty of the process.“
