Solemnly swore to silence
this hedge is my hope
struggling for security – pending
to survive, this
synthetic sphere called ‘home’
ever shaming the truth as uncouth
ingrained before my youth.
To safeguard my sanity
I serve the gods
of fear, greed, denial and anger.
they command my soul’s surrender
they bid, “Hide your light”
detached from the sham, my spirit scintillates
only to gaze on it in the night
still it burns – I yearn
still churns, resistance.
